Located in Rugari Zone, just 5 kilometers from the Kobero border post, Kinazi enjoys a strategic position between Burundi and Tanzania. In the past, the village relied mainly on the cultivation of sweet potatoes, ripe bananas, and cassava. Today, it is writing a new chapter in its history. Thanks to Burundi Avocado Market (BAM), Kinazi is becoming a major hub for Burundian avocados.
BAM's modern facilities enable the collection, sorting, grading, and packaging of avocados. Its products meet international quality standards. Burundi Avocado Market exports between 200 and 500 metric tons of premium-quality avocados every day, including Hass, Kienyeji, Fuerte, and Choquette varieties. The village has established itself as a strategic gateway to international markets.
This transformation benefits the entire region. BAM employs 42 permanent staff members and more than 500 daily workers. The company provides a source of income for hundreds of Burundian families. Farmers now have access to new markets, while young people are discovering profitable opportunities in agriculture. Kinazi has become a symbol of agricultural development. From this border village, Burundian avocados are now reaching markets around the world.
